The Risk, Security and Compliance unit recently launched the Risk Champions Program, an initiative that aims to enhance risk management capabilities and build a strong risk culture in the Foundation.

The launching was held last June 25, 2018 at the EADSC Plenary Hall, with RAFInians uttering “Risk Ko, Tulubagon Ko,” during the activity, which was broadcast across different workspaces in the Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center (EADSC) building.

In her opening message, RAFI President and Chief Operating Officer Dominica Chua stressed the importance of the program, saying that each RAFInian should take ownership of and accountability for the different risks associated with their personal and professional lives.

The Risk Champion Program is a priority initiative of Risk, Security and Compliance unit of the Foundation that seeks to contribute to RAFI’s growth and protect its assets to ensure continuous service to its partners and stakeholders.

The Task

During the launch, the Risk Champion Program admitted 16 Risk Champions from all of RAFI’s program and support units to an 18-month development program.

Divided into five phases, the 18 training courses of the program cover technical and practical areas of enterprise risk management, business continuity management, information security management system, insurance management, and compliance management.

By the end of the training, Risk Champions should be able to initially review team outputs, guide the team towards the correct Risk Management strategy and efforts, provide Risk Management outputs with minimal corrections, and review notes.

They should also be able to fully understand the concepts of each Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and its contents, determine the right control to implement relating to information asset security, facilitate risk-related discussions (e.g. risk reviews, business continuity management sessions, insurance concerns, etc.) to determine the best Risk Management initiative to address certain concerns, determine strategies and transform it into BCPs, maximize insurance requirements for the team, and enhance compliance capability of their respective units.

The risk champions took oath vowing to fulfill their responsibilities, adhere to deadlines of deliverables, raise the level of awareness in risk management practices, and fulfill the obligations of being a Risk Champion.

Their respective team leaders also swore to allow their champion to attend meetings, consider their role as a risk champion as part of their performance evaluation, and review and work together in building the right risk culture.

Prior to the launch, team leaders attended a workshop to enhance their understanding of RAFI’s risk culture based on the results of an enterprise survey.
