Cebu’s 7 th District Adhoc Council gathered for the second time this year on Thursday, February 8 to discuss the District’s development through the Integrated Area Development Program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI-IADP).

The meeting, which took place in the Provincial Vice Governor’s Conference Room in the Legislative Building of the Capitol Compound, was hosted and presided by Congressman Peter John D. Calderon as District Representative. Also in attendance were 7 th District Provincial Board Members Christopher “Dong” Baricuatro and Jerome Librando as well as Mayors and focal persons from the District’s eight municipalities.

Mayors and focal persons presented a profile that included the history, basic demographics,  and economic assets of their municipality. Based on these presentations, members from RAFI’s Integrated Development Unit and Kool Adventure Camp facilitated a brief workshop which clustered the District’s identified assets.

Based on these groupings, the Council identified the top three assets which they believe would drive the District’s development, namely; tourism, infrastructure, and agriculture. The output will be used in designing the program’s upcoming transect mapping activity.

RAFI’s Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center and Biodiversity Conservation Unit also presented a brief overview of their programs to the Council. Several of the local government units expressed their interest in partnering with the program units.

The 7th Congressional District of Cebu is located in Southwest Cebu Province, and is composed of eight municipalities. RAFI-IAD provides Local Government Units (LGUs) with technical assistance towards socio-economic development.
