A Dose of Vitamin Sea: RAFI Organizes Psychosocial Workshop for Cancer Patients, Survivors, Loved Ones

More than 50 cancer patients and survivors were treated to an afternoon of camaraderie and culture with “A Dose of Vitamin Sea”, a psychosocial program held last April 8 and 15 at The Kabilin Center and Casa Gorordo Museum, respectively.
The event, organized by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center and RAFI The Kabilin Center, aimed to boost wellbeing among cancer patients and survivors by promoting inner calmness, self-awareness, and emotional expression.
“We wanted to provide opportunities wherein our beneficiaries could gain a new and more positive perspective on life. Activities like this allow them to spend time with their main support system – their family and friends. It helps them appreciate the small joys and remember what truly matters in life,” said Dr. Giselle Gaviola, RAFI’s Program Director for Health.
The event also involved friends and family of beneficiaries to promote a sense of support between patients and their loved ones through an afternoon filled with engaging activities.
Participants enjoyed a tour of The Kabilin Center’s Duyan ang Kadagatan (Cradled by the Sea) Exhibit, which showcases the role of water in the life of Cebuanos throughout history. It was followed by a shell frame-making workshop and group discussion.
“Through sessions like this, cancer patients receive support from survivors, teaching them about their own strength and resilience. In doing so, beneficiaries continue their journey with cancer bravely. In addition, family and loved ones of patients also receive input and support from fellow caretakers of other cancer patients,” Gaviola said.
