This Women’s month, the Micro-finance Unit of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI Micro-finance) organized its first Community Outreach Program (COP) for 2018 held at the municipality of Daanbantayan, Cebu, last March 10.
The services featured during the event were free medical consultation, dental check-up, optical, blood typing, sugar-testing, Pilmico livelihood training, PhilHealth lecture, Papsmear and Breast examination for the early detection of breast and cervical cancer. Mothers can also bring along their children since a kiddie booth was intended so their children can play and do activities like coloring books and clay molding.
The COP was conducted in the municipality’s gymnasium and over 600 clients and non-clients who came to avail the free medical services and livelihood workshops were served.
One of the volunteer nurses from AMSA-SOMA, Lloyd Ravidas said, “This is a venue for our organization as medical students to volunteer in a community work so we can hone our clinical skills and help communities.”
The event would not be possible without the help of the volunteers and RMF’s partners – Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center (EJACC), AMSA-SOMA of Cebu Institute of Medicine (CIM), PhilHealth, Pilmico, and Banilad Center for Professional Development (BCPD) – who extended their helping hands for the event’s success.
Epitacia Curaraton, 57, an RMF client said, “Gusto gyud kaayo ko magpacheck-up kay effective kaayo ang tambal nga ipanghatag, libre pa gyud. (I really wanted to have a check-up because the free medicines are free and effective).”
Women’s month is also a way of honoring women like Epitacia, a fish vendor raising her three children with her husband who is a construction worker. Epitacia was able to send one of her child to finish school.
She shared, “Dako gyud kaayo og katungdanan ang babaye sa iyang pamilya, dapat gyud mo tabang sa bana aron makasugakod sa adlaw-adlaw nga panginahanglanon. (A woman has big role when it comes to her family, she should be able to help her husband in order to provide the daily needs of her family).”
RMF was able to accomplish seven (7) Community Outreach Programs last 2017 and will continue serving its Nanay clients, their families and communities with a goal of elevating lives.
The Microfinance Program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI Micro-finance) provides financial and non-financial services to micro-entrepreneurs with a mission of elevating lives of the vulnerable and disadvantaged communities through stable and rewarding livelihood.
