The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) welcomed 72 researchers, educators, and practitioners from NGOs, civil society organizations, think tanks, and foundations across the Asia Pacific region for the 13th International Society for Third-Sector Research (ISTR) Asia-Pacific Regional Conference in Cebu, Philippines.

The conference titled, ‘Civil Society’s Role in Sustainability – Social, Economic Development, and the Environment, hosted by National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG), of the University of the Philippines – Diliman, tackles how CSO’s can help in promoting sustainability across development projects in the community and how it can elevate their lives.

As part of its engagement, RAFI supported the conference by hosting a plenary session on “Culture as a Driver for Development.” The session explored how cultural heritage can promote inclusive and sustainable community development while inspiring civic action. Highlighting one of RAFI’s successful initiatives, Marie Sol Gonzalvo, Executive Director of RAFI Central & South Cluster, presented Gabii sa Kabilin—the organization’s flagship program for culture and heritage.

Participants also enjoyed a guided tour of Casa Gorordo Museum, one of Cebu’s cultural landmarks, which offered an immersive experience into Philippine history, local traditions, and heritage preservation. The museum visit served as a representation of how cultural institutions can inspire pride of place and educational engagement.

The conference concluded with a community dinner, fostering deeper collaboration and meaningful connections among delegates through shared meals and conversations—a fitting end to an event rooted in unity, cultural exchange, and collective growth.
