The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) has been awarded for its exceptional commitment to implementing Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Program and its activities. This prestigious recognition was presented by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council 7 (RDRRMC 7) for the 23rd Gawad Kalasag Seal.

In a ceremony held on December 13, 2023 at the Marina Seaview Restaurant in Lapu-lapu City, RAFI was presented with a plaque of recognition for its outstanding contributions to disaster risk reduction and management. The acknowledgment came through the Gawad Kalasag Special Awards for the Best Civil Society Organization category for the year 2023. This accolade specifically recognizes organizations that have demonstrated excellence in implementing effective disaster risk reduction programs and advocacy initiatives.

A consistent recipient of this esteemed award, RAFI’s unwavering dedication to supporting communities in becoming disaster-resilient and collaborating closely with Local Government Units (LGUs) to enhance disaster response and comprehensive preparedness and empower them with the skills and knowledge needed to respond adeptly to disasters.

Scoring a 89/100 in the regional level evaluation, RAFI HDPR (Humanitarian Disaster Preparedness and Response) was assessed in four crucial categories: organization, accreditation and partnership, institutional capacities, and sustainability.

The Gawad Kalasag Special Awards aim to annually acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional contributions of partners and institutions, including Hospitals, Schools, Civil Society Organizations, People’s Organizations, Volunteer Organizations, Private Organizations, GEMS, and individuals. The awards, aligned with the “whole-of-society” approach, seek to foster inclusivity, wider participation, and equal opportunities for all stakeholders in promoting and sustaining Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation (DRR-CCA) innovations and best practices.
