RAFI Education Development Unit

The RAFI Education Development Unit (RAFI EDU) continues to serve learners at the margins. For the first half of the year, RAFI EDU turned over two new school buildings in San Remigio, Cebu.

The program celebrated the achievements of the awardees of the Seal of Excellence in Education Development (SEED) through the SEED Grants Expo. Top performing public schools came together for an expo to share their best practices in school improvement and learning delivery.

RAFI EDU continues to support school leaders and learners in the safe reopening of classes. RAFI partnered with the Global School Leaders and conducted the beta test of their localized Upya program. “Upya,” a Kiswahili term for renewal, aims to enable school leaders to lead effectively through a crisis.

For 2022, the RAFI Education Development Unit has reached 975 learners, assisted five schools, and served 21 teachers.

A group of school heads and teachers from the DepEd Cebu South Districts attended the Upya program beta course.

RAFI CFL Facilitates Musta Na Youth In-school Sessions For Cebu South Student Leaders

The RAFI Center for Leaders (RAFI CFL) provides learning and development programs that equip leaders and enable communities through safe, world-class, powerful learning experiences.

The RAFI CFL has trained 1,080 disadvantaged young leaders for the first half of the year. The program conducted 45 training sessions and boasts of a 93% course effectiveness rating to date. RAFI CFL has trained 486 adult leaders through its Professional Development Program and 1,318 youth leaders through its Youth Development Program.

The RAFI Center for Leaders has officially returned to its much-awaited face to face courses!

In partnership with Foressa Mountain Town, the RAFI Center for Leaders now brings Personal Well-Being Journey and iChoose courses to professionals and youth participants. Participants can enjoy the beautiful trails of Foressa and embrace adventure, learning, and growth in the breathtaking outdoors.

RAFI Culture and Heritage Unit

The Casa Gorordo Museum staged a big exhibit earlier this year entitled “Heroism: Celebrating Heroes of the Philippine Revolution.” The exhibit brought recognition to heroes in Cebu who contributed to the creation of the Philippines during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The exhibit engaged 179,848 exhibit onsite visitors.

The Culture and Heritage Unit has released new online content to bring Cebuano culture and heritage to a larger audience. Among its latest productions is its podcast, Saysay Sugbo. Saysay Sugbo gives listeners a dose of Cebuano history and culture and their impact on Cebuano society today. Take time to listen to SaySay Sugbo today!

The Gabii sa Kabilin released several webinars anchored on the theme “Padayon: The Persistence of the Cebuano Amidst Crises”. The theme highlights why the Cebuano race, spirit and personality have continued to exist and thrive amidst the many challenges that came his way.

RAFI Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund

The RAFI Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund (RAFI DACF) enables communities to champion for children.

In partnership with the Cebu City Nutrition Network, the program launched A Chance to Grow, a campaign to support the health and nutrition of children. Over 2,000 children in Cebu City are considered malnourished, putting their overall development at risk.

Poor nutrition at this critical stage a child’s development impacts their physical health, as well as their mental and social development.

You can give children a chance to grow towards a healthy and fulfilling life. Your donations provide nutritious meals that help children at risk of malnutrition.

RAFI One to Tree

Turnover of School Community-based Tree Growing Project
The RAFI One to Tree offers community-based and environmentally appropriate native tree growing services. Over the last six months, it has engaged 243 farmers in Cebu and Davao and maintained 920,704 trees and produced 376,830 seedlings. The program has achieved a 95% survival rate of seedling planted.

The program works closely with individual donors and corporate partners in growing more native trees in the Philippines. For the first half of the year, a total of 12,645 seedlings were booked through individual donors.

Corporate partners likewise play a huge role greening the country and helping the Philippines recover its tree cover lost. Through corporate partners the program booked 1,527,942 seedlings for planting in the months to come.

RAFI turned over its school community-based tree growing program to the Department of Education (DepEd) Cebu Province after planting 508,031 native trees. The program was a five-year partnership with Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., Aboitiz Equity Venture, and DepEd Cebu Province.

RAFI Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center

The Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center is the health service arm of the foundation and implements programs along the continuum of cancer care.

The program coordinated with local government units and barangay health workers in the promotion of early cancer detection and cancer advocacy. It worked with eight local government units in the promotion of its cancer advocacy.

It provided cancer screening to 7,006 patients and pre-cancerous treatment to 1,170 patients. A total of 52 patients were provided with cancer treatment assistance.

RAFI Humanitarian Disaster Preparedness and Response

The RAFI Humanitarian Disaster Preparedness and Response (RAFI HDPR) program provides disaster response interventions to affected communities, primarily in Cebu and the rest of the country. Throughout early 2022, the foundation provided extensive support to communities heavily affected by the typhoon. A total of 192,104 individuals benefitted of the humanitarian response efforts in the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Southern Leyte, Negros Oriental, and Negros Occidental.

The program likewise provided extensive support to communities affected by other calamities and disasters, including Typhoon Agaton.

RAFI HDRP is committed to supporting local government units and their local disaster risk reduction and management office. The program provided basic life support and first aid training to 157 local disaster risk reduction and management officers from 12 Cebu government units.

RAFI supported communities affected by Typhoon Odette

RAFI Microfinance, Inc.

The RAFI Microfinance, Inc. (RAFI MFI) helped its clients to rise again from the impacts of the Typhoon Odette and the pandemic. They rolled out their 3-step Disaster Recovery Intervention of Response, Rehabilitation and Recovery, and Building Resilience.

RAFI MFI provided relief packs to 18,000 clients and processed calamity insurance claims to more than 112,00 clients. Its rehabilitation and recovery initiatives focused on the business continuity of branches to cater to clients’ needs for recapitalization.

SAGIP loan as Odette Response (SLOR) helped more than 13,000 clients, including 2,000+ fisherfolks and provided capitalization of more than PHP 222M.

A total of 60 clients’ children were selected as part of the Bugsay Scholarship Program. To date, RAFI MFI has touched more than 3M lives, sustaining more than 1.2M jobs, and sent more than 1.8M children to school.
