The Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB), through the Research, Program and Organizational Development Program Management Office, and in partnership with the Cebu Provincial Government, held the second Purok Talks on Oct. 3, 2018 at the Grand Convention Center of Cebu.
Dubbed as Purok Talks: “Strengthening and Advancing Communities” (A Mega Cebu Leaders’ Summit), the event intends to strengthen and promote the purok system as well as various efforts related to it. The summit brought together representatives from local government units (LGUs), civil society, and private sector leaders to learn and share from each other’s experiences and initiatives related to community development in general and to the purok system in particular.
Purok Talks also aims to bring noteworthy practices of LGUs for knowledge sharing on a metro-wide level. This Purok Talks is meant to advance sustainable urban development through local initiatives complementing sub-regional efforts. The results of a case study on the good to best practices of puroks in selected towns in Metro Cebu will be also be presented.
The summit served as a learning and development conference, with five breakout sessions where resource persons and experts on selected topics were invited to inform, inspire, and influence LGU, purok, and other leaders, equipping them with relevant knowledge, skills, and tools. Thematic areas include Policy Development, Project Development, Basic Facilitation, Conflict Management, and Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Response.
