In 2017, two men emerged as Most Outstanding in the RAFI Exemplary Employee Award (REEA), the highest award given to recognize the RAFI employees with exceptional contributions to the Foundation: Raffy Baladjay, Operations Regional Manager of RAFI Micro-finance, Inc. and Lloyd Manila, RAFI Liaison Officer.
This is the retelling of their success stories in the eyes of the people who know their work ethics more than anyone else does — their colleagues.
Work Ethics Matter
Joan Paula Ruiz, RAFI’s Senior Finance and Admin Supervisor, believes that Lloyd Manila is a man of few words.
“Having dedicated 12 years of his professional life with RAFI as Liaison officer, Lloyd [Manila] performs his duties in the best way he can — his passion and integrity are his top strengths,”
“He is a man of few words, he works silently but diligently, but his work speaks loudly about his character,”
The Gold Standard: Integrity and Reputation Intact
Manila. Ruiz also said that Manila could be entrusted with both small and big responsibilities, up to the last cent, and can deliver quality service even during the weekends that should be allotted to his family.
“He [Lloyd Manila] can be very dependable for ensuring that all bank transactions are properly executed, this includes all collections, fund transfers, payroll and other money-related transactions, he could be trusted in the sense that up to the last cent, everything will be turned-over properly as needed,”
Ruiz also said that Lloyd also does not mind being called for duty on a weekend to deliver important documents and route to assigned signatories.
“He knows how to sacrifice personal time for urgent matters. He accepts his role wholeheartedly just to complete his deliverables,”
Noticeable to his colleagues, Lloyd finds joy in knowing that his work contributes, no matter how little it might seem, to the success of the unit where he belongs. His winning the RAFI Employee Exemplary Award (REEA) — Team member category only shows that regardless of title or position, anyone who selflessly dedicates himself to his work can be recognized, a living testimony of the quote “excellence is not being the best but about doing your best.”
Baladjay. On the same night, another RAFInian was recognized as the RAFI Exemplary Award (REEA) — Team Leader Category — Raffy Baladjay of RAFI Micro-finance, Inc. (RMF).
He was once the youngest Branch Manager, taking over the position at the very young age of 22. He began his career in RMF (formerly called CMEDFI) as Buffer Trust Staff for the Ormoc Branch.
In 2014, he joined the Bugsai project taskforce with Renoir and RMF to look into the process of maximizing the potential of the organization, a deployment that opened new opportunities for RMF.
Baladjay’s journey within the organization has been very progressive and fulfilling — handling a wide range of responsibilities, from a buffer trust staff to becoming an Operations Regional Manager.
This is what Ailyne Lim, the Deputy Officer for Operations, RAFI Micro-finance, Inc. has to say about Raffy Baladjay and his contribution to the RAFI Micro-finance, Inc.
“He does not choose, as long as he can contribute, he will contribute; if he sees that there is a problem, he will volunteer himself to work on a specific change for the project at hand,” Lim said.
Lim believes that Baladjay knows what he wants, has a clear vision of the bigger picture, and has positive attitude towards work, and never hesitates to assist in any other area or project when he sees the need.
Lim added that Baladjay is a very grounded person, a dedicated father, and someone who thinks positively and sees the good in people.
When asked to give a message for Baladjay, Lim has this to say: “Keep on doing what you are doing right now, keep the fire burning, and nurture your love for your family — you need to have that and never forget it, because that is one of your tender traits. And never stop believing that you can grow.”
Dedication, integrity and being a role model are some of the virtues that made these two the best in their careers, making sure that all their work are executed with honesty and diligence.
