Being told you have cancer can be the most depressing news one can hear, especially if you are a child. Children with cancer usually cannot fully grasp what cancer is and its implications to their health. Eventually, they will notice that they have unusually low energy, they lose appetite, and their bones are weak that they cannot stand up by themselves and play.
Facing this battle alone is hard. And to let them know that they are not alone in this fight, Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko Foundation, Inc. (KKMK) and the Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation (RAFI-DACF) organized a psychosocial activity for children with cancer.
The psychosocial activity is under the “Pangga-a Sab Ko” Program. It enables the children with cancer to interact with the cancer-vivors. This is to give them hope and strength that there are also other children fighting the same battle and that just like the cancer-vivors, they, too, will survive.
The activity was conducted by psychologists from the Family Adolescents Children Educational Therapeutic Center, Inc. Different sets of activities were given to the children depending on their ages. A special circle was also made for the parents and guardians of the children with cancer.
This activity was held at Beverly View Place, Cebu City last August 11, 2018. The next activity where the children will be meeting again will be for their Christmas party.
The Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation (RAFI-DACF) aims to improve Early Childhood Care and Development condition at the grassroots level by providing capabilities to the Local Government Units to effectively track children’s development and by constructing quality early learning centers. Its Grants Program also supports initiatives promoting the welfare and development of children in all ages.
