Children learn best by playing.

This is the principle which guides the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. through Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund (RAFI-DACF) when they build play facilities in their efforts to provide opportunities for the holistic development of children.

For the past six years, RAFI-DACF has been able to partner with 19 local government units in Cebu, which has provided 109 Child Development Centers and play facilities.

Just last August, RAFI-DACF turned over two play facilities in Punta Elementary School in San Remegio. One play facility was designed for younger children (ages 8 and younger) to develop their seven domains, which include physical well-being, cognitive, linguistic, and socio-emotional development, to name a few

The other play facility was designed for children in the elementary level. The Rope Bridge Park in the tree-laden area of the school was built to incorporate one important element in a child’s development – the element of risk.

Through risk taking in play, children can develop mobility, strength, balance, and coordination. When children experience challenges, failure, and success first-hand, they learn to have confidence and tend to make better choices in real life.

In this regard, the Parents-Teachers Association of the school and barangay Punta also designed an eco-park to strengthen its child-friendly spaces for the children.

As of August, RAFI-DACF has already turned over 111 quality play facilities to twenty local government units in the province.
