Run 2 Plant 4 GREENIN Philippines
The Run 2 Plant 4 GREENIN Philippines is a collaborative event that puts GREENIN Philippines Program’s advocacy into concrete action in a collaborative and integrated manner. It is an environmental initiative under the GREENIN Philippines Program of RAFI that engages the general public to participate in a simultaneous running and planting of native tree species throughout the province of Cebu.
Specifically, the event aims to:
a. Raise public awareness on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation among local government leaders
b. Forge local and national government commitment to action
c. Encourage multiple partnerships in caring for the environment by getting the active participation of Cebu’s 51 towns and cities to do the same in their respective locality
d. Establish forest model in each town/component city
e. Put forward one meaningful activity in commemorating the World Environment Day and the Philippine Environment Month in the province of Cebu
Held every last Saturday of June, the event has 2 segments, the run and the plant segments, which are designed to promote health among the people and the environment by planting native trees.
The said event contributes significantly to the achievement of the National Greening Program issued by President Benigno Aquino III under Executive Order No. 26 and the Billion Trees Program of Department of the Interior and Local Governance.
In 2012, Davao del Sur also simultaneously holds its Run 2 Plant 4 GREENIN Philippines in its area, the first outside Cebu.
